507 – One Last Time
I took the opportunity to see 507 one last time on Sept 23 when the building was part of “Open Doors Milwaukee”, when hundreds of buildings open up to the public for tours. JCI is planning to be completely out of the whole place within about 6-9 months. It has been sold to a real estate firm, and its future use is either uncertain, or at least undisclosed, at this point in time. The block west of the 507 building has 3 hotels (Holiday Inn Express, Home2 by Hilton, and a Tru by Hilton). For several years, Johnson Controls owned the land currently occupied by the hotels with the idea of further campus expansion, but nothing came of it. The Brengel Technology Center lobby looks similar to how it was when I retired 10 years ago. The open air patio off the cafeteria is really growing the vines. It gives the building’s LEED green building status another level of “green”. The Lion heads from the prior American Appraisal building on that site, look like they could use a haircut. I could use more words, but the pictures speak better.
