Agreement with Cardkey
Johnson Controls signs agreement with Cardkey
February 24, 1987 (PD: 201402)
On February 24, 1987, Johnson Controls announced it had signed a multi-million dollar original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Cardkey to supply cards, readers, controllers and other hardware and software to be sold under the Johnson Controls brand. Johnson Controls’ Access Control security system would begin to use Cardkey’s proximity, Wiegand, and magnetic strip cards and readers to provide “building security with convenient accessibility for eligible people.”
Eleven years later, in 1998, Johnson Controls purchased Cardkey from CustomTracks Corp. for $41 million. Cardkey’s line of access control and alarm monitoring systems were used in a variety of organizations, including banks, hospitals and government agencies.
