Our Website – needs Help
Our WSJ Society website The Warren Johnson Society is probably going to be required to change. The company (JCI) is telling us that it has to be removed from their system. I’m no web or internet expert, so I’m not clear about all the reasoning behind this, but I believe it is a combination of several things including security, maintenance, the language (wordpress) that runs it, and maybe a few more that are beyond me. So, we are scrambling to see what options are available to us.
The present website does not appear to be very heavily used by our members. It is more elaborate than our group needs. We probably do need a Web presence of some kind in today’s world, so new retirees can find us and we can communicate to you our membership. While email can be used for most communication, like our quarterly newsletter, it does require that our membership keeps us up to date with their current email address. This is easier said than done. A web site provides a common location to reconnect if/when an email connection isn’t up to date. Would a Facebook presence be enough? It probably wouldn’t be as easy to find and access as a website.
Here are a few basics our website needs; (are there others?)
Who we are statement.
How to contact us; Website, email, postal address
How to join
Photos – a gallery would be nice to show what we’ve done
Newsletter current one and some archives (we now have 20 yrs online)
Future events – luncheons and other
Obituary notices; recent and historical
If there are any members out there with significant web site configuration and maintenance experience that would be willing to get involved in filling our current need, we would really like to hear from you. Unfortunately, we are currently running at, or a little below, a break-even level of financing, so there are no extra funds to hire a consultant or take on much of an extra monthly website fee. If those are going to be required, we will have to generate additional funds.
Member feedback (NOT Spam) is requested to; help@wsjsociety.com
